IMG_4819Did you overdo it with Easter candy yesterday?  Feeling the YUCK of overeating/drinking?  Ready to cleanse?  We’ve all been there, done that!  Let me share with you my own personal detox plan!  I follow it for several days, or up to a week.  It depends on my calendar and/or how badly I need to detox!

Linda’s Personal Detox Program

Upon awakening, I drink 8 ounces of cool water with either fresh lemon and spearmint leaves, or one drop each of my doTERRA lemon and spearmint essentials oils.

I  do a quick five-minute light full body dry brushing to get rid of dead skin cells and stimulate blood circulation and the lymphatic system. It also feels wonderful! Did you know the skin is responsible for 10-15% of total body elimination, and is sometimes referred to as the third kidney?  I brush from the feet up, head down – always towards the heart.  However, I do brush my abdomen in a clockwise circular motion (along the flow of the intestines).

Then, I take a shower to wash off all those dead skin cells and start the day off feeling fresh. I like to add a few drops of peppermint, lemon and grapefruit to wake up my senses.

I weight yourself, then divide that in half, and drink that many ounces of water daily.  For example, if I weight 130, I would drink 65 ounces of water daily.  I will add a drop of doTERRA Zendocrine essential oil to each glass/bottle of water.  Zendocrine provides support for the body’s cleansing organs.

For breakfast I make my chocolate or cafe latte’ Shakeology super-nutrient dense shake, adding various fruit on hand, or just mixing it up in my Vitamix with ice and water – I always feel like I’m cheating with a malted shake!

Lunches generally consist of greens with flaxseed oil/apple cider dressing, adding lots of raw kale, spinach, arugula, some cherry tomatoes, and lots of colorful veggies. Sometimes I add strawberries, blueberries and grapes.  Depends on my mood.  For extra protein I will add chia seeds, some grilled chicken, or  a piece of grilled salmon.  However, if I am being strict with myself, I may forego meat altogether just for a few days.

For dinner I will eat lots of veggies, from raw to stir-fried, chick peas, perhaps some black beans or kidney beans. Perhaps a baked sweet potato.  Again, depending upon how strict I am being with myself, I may have a piece of chicken or salmon.

At night I may treat myself to a detox bath, using my own special recipe including several doTERRA essential oils. I soak for about 20 minutes in a warm bath (not too hot), listening to soothing music, then rinse off with cool water and wrap up in a big, fluffy towel.

During a detox my goal is to sleep at least 8 hours a night. I know, it’s not easy, but it really helps!  I diffuse a few drops of doTERRA Lavender essential oil, keep the room cool and very dark and quiet.

While detoxing I drink LOTS of water, herbal and green teas.  I try to be very intentional and mindful about what I am putting into my body, and to eat only when hungry and only eat until I am feeling about 90% full.

My goal is to eliminate all dairy, gluten, flour and sugar from my system during this time.  My exercise includes lots of gentle stretching, Pilates, walking and swimming.  This is not the time I do marathon workouts!  However, I listen to my body as during a detox one may feel lethargic or “flu-ish” as the body rids itself of all the junk it’s been fed it in recent days.  It’s also possible to experience headaches and/or changes in bowel patterns.

So that’s it!  Nothing crazy, just a common sense easy-to-do plan that works for me.  Sometimes I will do it for three days, sometimes five, sometimes a full week.  Comment below and let us know what you do to detox when you have overdone it!
