Advent Devotions – December 6th

Luke 2:4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

Perhaps your travel plans have changed this year, even been put on hold altogether.  Perhaps you still are figuring out ways to still  pack up the kids and dog and go over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house.  You may be missing the holiday pageants at the school, the choir recitals at church, and the normal seasonal activities and outings.  Many people are more burned out than ever trying to juggle work (whether or from home or in the office), getting children to school or homeschooling, and still having to do the day-to-day activities of life… all while figuring out how to create the traditional holiday vibe and meaning.

In Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message version) Jesus says: “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely.”  I am over the moon crazy for that phrase “unforced rhythms of grace.”  When I read it, or even whisper it out loud, I find myself breathing, slowing down and feeling a sacred rest within.

Stop a minute today to breathe. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and carve out even five little minutes to come to Jesus to recover your life! Take a moment to receive His gift today of the “unforced rhythms of grace”.

What are some ways you could share in the comments on
how you purposefully flow into an unforced rhythm of grace?
