Tonight I whipped up some quick and easy Focaccia Bread using… ESSENTIAL OILS!
What? Yup… they’re not just for the spa or bath. They are terrific inside, outside and yes… perfect in the kitchen to add flavor to those healthy meals. In less than 30 minutes I had freshly baked bread that had my entire house smelling like my favorite Italian restaurant.
At my weekend trip to the market I purchased some (non-frozen) pizza dough. This morning before I left the house I took the dough out, lightly oiled it with a bit of extra virgin olive oil, and put the ball in a glass bowl and covered it loosely with some plastic wrap to rise during the day.
When I got home it had doubled in size, so I punched it down, divided it into three balls, and pressed out each ball flat into its own glass baking dish since I was making individual breads. Using my knuckles I made indentations all over the surface, then used a fork to poke holes over the surface of the dough.
Here’s the essential oils get introduced!!! I mixed one drop each of doTERRA basil oil, oregano oil and black pepper oil into three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and spread it over the surface of each awaiting bread dough. The smell was heavenly! Then I sprinkled a teensy bit of sea salt and liberally dusted the oiled surfaces with Parmesan cheese, added veggies (I used sliced tomatoes , peppers and asparagus, but you could add pretty much anything that appeals to you). I popped them in the oven, and within minutes I had mouth-watering, warm and altogether dee-lish-eee-o-sooo focaccia bread!
This was such a fun (and tasty) project and I loved being able to whip this up so quickly on a busy weeknight. How about you? Ready to serve yourself, family and friends something healthy that looks and tastes like you’ve been in the kitchen all day?
