Aside from the delicious taste of lemons, and how bright and beautiful they are…

There are some great reasons why drinking lemon-infused water is a very healthy habit!

  • They contain Vitamin C, which is high in antioxidants which prevent cellular damage and ward off free radicals, and the skin needs Vitamin C for collagen production.
  • Because of the potassium in lemons, they could aid in decreasing belly bloat – plus the ingestion of water helps flush out your system.
  • The citric acid in lemons can aid in digestion and detoxification.
  • Many people swear by drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning, infused with lemon, to kick-start their weight loss program.
  • The essential oil in lemons (as with many citrus essential oils) helps lift spirits.
  • If you have a glass of water with juice from ½ lemon, it’s only about 9 calories, 25% of RDI of Vitamin C. I love adding lots of lemon and mint to my water all day, and also adding lemon to my herbal tea, both iced and warm.  So much better for us than drinks laden with sugar and chemicals!!!
Now here’s my timesaving tip to using lemons! First, I always carry a bottle of my doTERRA Lemon essential oil with me, since it’s a little awkward carrying lemons in my bag, plus it’s highly concentrated (one 15mL bottle equals about 50 lemons!!!).  I use 1-2 drops of oil in my water.
I also batch cut my lemons. Get yourself a bag of lemons (Meyer lemons are my favorite), slice and dice them all at once, then toss them in a freezer bag or vacuum seal them (I love my FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer), and freeze them.  Now you have frozen/fresh lemons 24/7/365 — on hand whenever you need them for water, iced tea, or any of your preferred cold beverages.  Also great for other recipes – just grab and go!

Did you know nearly 3,000 lemons are needed to distill just over two pounds of lemon essential oil?
