Today, March 8th, is a day on which we take the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our sisters all around the world.
On this day, may I suggest that we also look at one very special woman in particular?
In order to do this, I need you to get up and go in your bathroom or bedroom. Now, find the nearest mirror. There she is. You. You are a very special woman of great worth and achievement.
We look at all these amazing women of international achievement, and while we need to do so in order to be inspired, encouraged, empowered, and reminded that we must dream and strive for greatness and excellence… it can be intimidating, daunting and overwhelming.
But…
You need to look at your life and all you have done. Each day your life matters, it touches others, impacts others, and influences others more than you realize. Your smile may be exactly what that other woman behind the counter needs to see, your friendly words, it matters. Your making that umpteenth meal for your family, it matters. Your listening to a friend and giving of your precious time, it matters. Your fellow student, coworker, friend, family member, stranger – every life you have touched today, it matters. You may never have your name listed in the Google list of “greats”, but you ARE great in and of yourself, right here, right now. The love you give, the time you give, the hours and hours you give of yourself. They all add up to greatness.
One of the women I admire most, Mother Teresa, said, “Do small things with great love.”
Plant those seeds each day, and you will leave a legacy that, while maybe not wind up in some history book, will live on in the hearts of every one of those small acts you have done throughout the course of your life. Dream big, let your heart and soul soar on the winds of hope, plan and go for whatever your heart longs for. Remember that each day, you are a unique and irreplaceable woman of importance, significance and distinction with every single breath you take. Rise up to your greatness
Encourage another woman today, and then encourage and love on that woman in the mirror, will you?
